In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 26.0% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 31.1% from 25 to 44, 21.7% from 45 to 64, and 14.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.14. 28.2% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. There were 926 households, out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 9.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.96% of the population. The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.68% White, 1.84% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.34% Asian, 0.81% from other races, and 1.07% from two or more races. It was additionally the first paper mill in Ulster County. Marlboro is also the location of the Gomez Mill House, an historical site which is the oldest Jewish residence in Ulster County.

The Chapel Hill Bible Church, Christ Episcopal Church, Dubois-Sarles Octagon, Elliot–Buckley House, and Shady Brook Farm are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The community was the site of the first settlement in the town, around 1697.
